MATH 1060 Trigonometry
For this class, I have completed one Signature Assignment relating to the motion of a weight on a spring. We were to provide a function using the information given (using a formula to plug the values in), graph functions by hand and graphically, finding exact values for a function, proving using trigonometric identities, and rewriting a function in terms of another trigonometric function. | ![]() |

Reflection on MATH 1060 Motion of a Spring Project
Mass-spring systems can be used in everyday life in such things as being used as a simple harmonic motion model, defined as a periodic motion restoring the force directly proportional to the displacement, normally showing that the motion is sinusoidal in time and shows a single resonant frequency. The motion will remain periodic as long as there is no energy loss in the system. This system is essential towards understanding the trajectory of energy in quantum mechanics, also giving an exact, analytical solution. It’s important to understand the amplitude, period, and frequency of these systems because they show how fast, how long, and to what length it takes for the motion to be proportional to the displacement placed on it. This project gave further evidence to support my existing opinion about applying trigonometry to everyday life by showing that it applies to areas of scientific applications. Without this type of model to serve as an example with mathematical explanations, it would be much more difficult to comprehend the quantum-mechanical application without the basic knowledge of trigonometry and its graphical appearance.
