ENGL 2010 Intermediate Writing

For this class, I have completed a total of four assignments (three essays, one group project) throughout the semester: a Profile, an Evaluation, a Position Argument, and a Collaborative Project. Within these assignments, we were to understand the concepts of recognizing and identifying an "opportunity for change" and using significant facts to support our theses, presenting them effectively toward our given audience. We were also to choose a topic (specifically a controversial one) to apply to these assignments, writing about them within the different genres. My topic was on same-sex marriage. The following files contain three of my four assignments for this class: Profile, Position Argument, and Collaborative Project.

Collaborative Project: Idle-Free

This is the only assignment that does not involve my topic on same-sex marriage. I collaborated with classmates in a group and together we created a public service announcement (PSA) commercial on the harmful effects of car idling.

Reflection on English 2010

My performance on the assignments of this class demonstrated my achievement of the English 2010 goals by expanding my previous knowledge on writing papers and allowing me to dive deeper into structuring a topic much stronger than before. I already had a strong grasp on how certain genres of papers should be (such as profile, evaluation, and position argument), but this class allowed me to see how I could separate those genres even more and add more support to my set parameters within them.

The process I went through to complete the assignments included in the English 2010 portfolio was spaced out throughout the semester, as they were the class assignments that were to be submitted for grading. I first read through the readings and connected the information from that with what the week’s set assignment was (either identifying what was within a person’s writing, or discussing what should be included in a person’s paper). Afterwards, I would complete the assignment for that week, making any needed references to the textbook to ensure that I had completed the criteria required for the work.

I didn’t really face any challenges when completing the assignments. The only thing I would think that was a problem would be that sometimes the instructions for the classwork was a bit vague, making it slightly difficult to figure out what was required. In addressing this challenge, I either messaged the teacher to clarify or figured it out myself. There weren’t any challenges that inhibited my ability to complete assignments on time.

I picked these assignments to put in my ePortfolio because I felt the most passionate about them while I was working on them (which I felt helped strengthen them). They demonstrate my accumulated knowledge on how to format an essay and provide significant evidence to support the statements and facts within it.

The assignments illustrate my progression in identifying an opportunity for change as well as ensuring my grammar is appropriate within certain parts of the assignments (formal/informal statements from professionals and the general public).
